We have observed a recent NIR brightening of the quasar PKS0507+17 (z=0.416), a gamma ray source 1FGL J0510.0+1800. On October 28th,2012, epoch JD2456228.98800, we determined the flux in the H band to be 13.077 +/- 0.05. That is 2.5 magnitudes brighter than the flux determined by the 2mass survey. Observations were carried out with the 2.1m telescope of the Guillermo Haro Observatory operated by the National Institute for Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (Mexico), equipped with the instrument CANICA a NIR camera. We encourage further multi wavelength coverage.
