We report the discovery of the 2023 eruption of the recurrent nova M31N 2008-12a.
The nova is clearly detected in a single 120 s exposure in the clear filter obtained by 0.5m f/4 Half Meter Telescope at Xingming Observatory #2 on 2023 Dec. 05.54617 UTC.
We measure a magnitude CV = 18.63 +/- 0.14.
The transient is also visible on another image taken by the same instrument on 2023 Dec. 05.54775 UTC, CV = 18.79 +/- 0.13. But nothing is visible at this position on archival image taken on 2023 Dec. 04.83536 UT (limiting mag 19.5 râ).
We also reported the transient to CBAT and TNS, and it was named PNV J00452890+4154100 (http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/unconf/followups/J00452890+4154100.html) and AT 2023yvj (https://www.wis-tns.org/object/2023yvj).
We strongly encourage follow-up photometric and spectroscopic observations.
