We report spectroscopic observations of the transient AT2016hvu in NGC7316 discovered by the Catalina Real-time Transient Survey (CRTS; Drake et al. 2009, ApJ, 696, 870 ; http://crts.caltech.edu/ ) and the nova candidate PNV J00424181+4113433 reported in ATel #9716.

The observations were performed with the 2.56 m Nordic Optical Telescope equipped with ALFOSC (range 350-950 nm; resolution 1.6 nm).

(1) The spectrum shows a blue almost featureless continuum and narrow emission lines from the host galaxy.
(2) The spectrum is a puzzling combination of features from both He/N and Fe II nova types. The FWHM of H alpha is ~3000 km/s indicating a He/N type, but the line shape is Fe II -like.
