We report a classification of optical transients from spectroscopic observations with the Goodman spectrograph on the SOAR telescope. Targets were supplied by the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) and the Pan-STARRS Survey for Transients (PSST). Observations were made on 2016 Aug 11 UT. Classifications were performed with SNID (Blondin & Tonry, 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024).
Name | RA (J2000) | Dec (J2000) | z | Type | Phase | Notes
ASASSN-16ip | 02:27:21.70 | -23:55:45.30 | 0.017 | Ia | -5d | (1)
PS16drp | 22:10:41.24 | -27:53:36.8 | 0.028 | Ic | +50d |
Notes:
When the redshift is given to 2 decimal places, it is derived from the SN spectrum. Otherwise, the redshift is determined from the host galaxy.
(1) We measure a Si II 6355 velocity of -12,800 km/s. Also refer to ATel #9368, which classifies this object as a Type Ia supernova a few days before maximum.
