The MAXI/GSC nova-alert system triggered on a bright uncatalogued X-ray transient source at 15:05:06 UT on 2016 April 24.
Preliminary analysis shows the source position at around (R.A., Dec) = (119.58 deg, -45.63 deg) with an typical error of 0.5 deg. A more precise position may be given through the MAXI mailing list. The preliminary analysis also shows that 2-4 keV and 4-10 keV fluxes averaged over the scan transit were roughly 300 mCrab and 200 mCrab, respectively, indicating the source spectrum was soft.
Since there are no known bright X-ray sources near the source position, we tentatively name the source MAXI J0758-456. We encourage followup observations.
