We report optical spectroscopy (range 360-920 nm) of SN 2016adi obtained at the Las Campanas 2.5-m du Pont telescope (+WFCCD) on Feb. 10.3 UT. The spectrum clearly shows the features of a type Ia supernova around maximum light. Cross correlation with a library of supernova spectra via the Supernova Identification tool (SNID, Blondin & Tonry, 2007, ApJ 666, 1024) confirms this classification and yields matches with normal type Ia supernovae a few days before maximum light. The expansion velocity derived from the minimum of the 635.5-nm Si II absorption is approximately 11,600 km/s, using the redshift of 0.014897 of the presumed host NGC 5292 available from NED.
