The Nearby Supernova Factory II (http://snfactory.lbl.gov) reports the spectroscopic observation of a bright PSN in NGC2857, MASTER OT J092437.95 +49212.0 (RA, Dec) = (09h 24m 37.95s, +49d 21m 32s.0)(http://www.astronomerstelegram.org/?read=4459). The implied absolute magnitude based on the discovery photometry is -19.8 given the distance of NGC2857. The spectrum covers the range 320-1000 nm and is obtained with the SuperNova Integral Field Spectrograph (Aldering et al 2002, SPIE, 4836, 61) on the University of Hawaii 2.2-meter telescope. The spectrum is blue and featureless, with a weak (2 sigma) H-alpha detection corresponding to the NGC 2857 redshift of z=0.016301 (Third Reference Catalogue of Bright Galaxies, Version 3.9; de Vaucouleurs et al. 1991).
