CRATES J0531-4827 is in an historically bright optical and IR state.

Recently, the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope detected GeV gamma-ray emission from a source positionally consistent with CRATES J0531-4827 (ATel #2907). As part of our blazar monitoring campaign, we observe blazars and blazar candidates reported to be in a high flux state by Fermi. CRATES J0531-4827 was observed with the SMARTS 1.3m and ANDICAM instrument on UTC 14 October 2010 (JD 2455483.8103) in photometric conditions. We report a V-band magnitude of 15.35 and J-band magnitude of 13.32. Typical errors are 0.02 mag in V and 0.05 mag in J. In comparison, The USNO B1.0 catalog (Monet et al., AJ 125, 984, 2003) reports B=20.61 and I=18.98. The source is not in the 2MASS All-Sky Point Source Catalog.
