We obtained a spectrum of the transient AT 2019tpb/ASASSN-19aad (TCP J18395972-1025415; see also CBAT TOCP) with the FRODOSpec spectrograph (resolution R ~ 5400; Barnsley et al. 2012) on the 2-m Liverpool Telescope (LT; Steele et al. 2004) on 2019 Oct 29.81 UT.
The spectrum shows Balmer lines, which exhibit P-Cygni profiles. We measure the maximum velocity of the Hα absorption component to be ~1500 km/s. We also find lines from He I (6678, 7065Å) and O I (7773Å) at the red end of the spectrum, which also all show P-Cygni profiles. There are numerous lines blueward of Hβ, mainly absorption lines, although some may have weak emission components. Our spectrum of AT 2019tpb also shows absorption lines originating from N II and C II.
This spectrum shows that AT 2019tpb/ASASSN-19aad is a Galactic nova in the early stages of eruption.
