We report the detection of a new X-ray outburst of the recurrent X-ray
transient and black-hole candidate 4U 1630-47. The All Sky Monitor
aboard the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer began detecting the source on
or near 2002 September 10, when it rapidly rose to 0.3-0.4 Crab (2-12
keV) on 2002 September 13. This renewed activity of 4U 1630-47 follows
its last outburst which started in 2000 November and lasted until 2001
June. During its 1998 outburst, the radio and possible IR counterparts
of the source were detected (Hjellming et al. 1999, ApJ, 514, 383;
Augusteijn et al. 2001, A&A, 375, 447; VLA radio position
R.A.=16h34m01.60s +/- 0.05s, Dec.= -47 23' 33" +/- 2", equinox
2000). Therefore, observations of this source at all wavelengths are
strongly encouraged.
