The NOT Unbiased Transient Survey (NUTS; ATel #8992) collaboration reports the spectroscopic classification of supernova SN 2016gfy in host galaxy NGC 2276. The candidate was discovered by Alessandro Dimai in the course of the CROSS program (ISSP associate).
The observations were performed with the 2.56 m Nordic Optical Telescope equipped with ALFOSC (range 350-950 nm; resolution 1.6 nm) on 2016-09-15.25 UT.
IAU Name | Host galaxy | Redshift | Discovery (UT) | Discovery mag | Type | Phase | Notes
SN 2016gfy | NGC 2276 | 0.008 | 2016-09-13.10 | 16.3 | II | few days after explosion | (1)
(1) Host redshift from NED (Epinat et al. 2008, MNRAS, 388, 500). Spectrum matches a young SN II at the host redshift, with blue continuum and broad Balmer emission lines (H-alpha FWHM ~13500 km/s).
Classifications were performed using the GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A&A, 488, 383) and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) tools.
