We obtained a low-resolution spectrum of ASASSN-15un (ATel #8470) on UT Jan 10.1 with the du Pont 2.5m telescope (+ WFCCD) at Las Campanas Observatory. The spectrum of ASASSN-15un shows broad Balmer lines in emission (H-alpha line has FWHM ~ 12000 km/s) on top of a blue continuum, characteristic of a young Type II supernova. The first spectrum of the object obtained on UT Jan 3 by Pan et al. (ATel #8506) showed a featureless blue continuum, consistent with a Type II SN caught quite early.
