AGILE detection of a new gamma-ray source at high Galactic latitude, AGLJ1647+5107

AGILE is detecting intense gamma-ray emission above 100 MeV from an unidentified source, AGLJ1647+5107, at Galactic coordinates (l,b)=(78.31, 40.00) +/- 0.5 deg (95% stat.) +/- 0.1 deg (syst.) (R.A., Dec.= 251.85 51.11 deg, J2000)

Integrating from 2013-02-22 15:00 UT to 2013-02-24 17:18 UT, a maximum likelihood analysis yields the detection of a source with a flux of (200+/-50) x 10E-8 ph/cm2/s (E > 100 MeV) with a significance level of 5.4 sigma.

No obvious counterpart is identified within the error box.

This measurement was obtained with AGILE observing a large portion of the sky in spinning mode.

Multifrequency observations of sources in the AGILE error circle are strong encouraged.
