We report the discovery of a Type II SN on May 15.09 (when the variable was at magnitude R = 19.9), as part of the La Silla-QUEST (LSQ) transient survey. Photometry is calibrated to the USNO-B1.0 catalog. The source's position is RA = 13:59:35.24, Dec =-11:29:06.0 (J2000). Spectrum was taken with Gemini South GMOS (range 350-965 nm), obtained on May 17 UT showing that LSQ12clw is a young type II supernova at a redshift of z=0.071 from the host galaxy lines. The spectra shows a weak H-alpha emission and otherwise blue continuum.
