AGILE is detecting intense gamma-ray emission above 100 MeV from an unidentified source, AGL J1035-6055, at Galactic coordinates (l,b)=(287.19, -2.26) +/- 0.4 deg (95% stat.) +/- 0.1 deg (syst.) (R.A., Dec.= 158.96, -60.92 deg, J2000).

Integrating from 2017-01-02 00:00 UT to 2017-01-06 00:00 UT, a maximum likelihood analysis yields the detection of a source at a significance level of about 6 sigma and a flux F(E>100 MeV)=(3.1 +/- 0.8) x 10^-6 ph cm^-2 s^-1.

The weak FERMI unassociated gamma-ray source 3FGL J1037.2-6052 lies within the error circle of the AGILE detection.

This measurement was obtained with AGILE observing a large portion of the sky in spinning mode. Multifrequency observations of the AGL J1035-6055 region are strongly encouraged.
