We report an optical spectroscopic observation of ASASSN-16pp/AT2016jgr (ATel #9927) on UT 2017 Jan 3.03 using the du Pont 2.5-m telescope (+ WFCCD) at Las Campanas Observatory. The spectrum of ASASSN-16pp shows a blue continuum with H Balmer and He I 5876 lines in emission. The lines have a narrow (unresolved) component and an intermediate velocity component (with Gaussian FWHM ~ 2000 km/s) characteristic of a Type IIn SN. We measure a redshift of z=0.0768 from the narrow part of the SN emission lines, which implies an absolute magnitude at discovery of M_V ~ -20.4.
