The transient black hole binary GX 339-4 is currently in outburst, and
slowly rising in both soft and hard X-rays. On Jan 23, 2007 (MJD
54123), the RXTE/ASM recorded a flux of 12.1 cts/sec, which corresponds to
166 mCrab (2-12 keV). On Jan 21, 2007 (MJD 54121) the source flux was
0.096 cts/sec in the Swift/BAT 15-50 keV band, or 417 mCrab (Swift/BAT
transient monitor results provided by the Swift/BAT team; see Krimm et
al. 2006 ATEL 904).
The source has met our team's trigger criteria for INTEGRAL
observations. The first observation is scheduled to start at
2007-01-30 (MJD 54130) at 15:56:59.0. In total, six observations of
130 ksec (each spaced by two weeks) will be performed in the coming
months. The data will be made public immediately. Contemporaneous
radio and IR observations are particularly encouraged.
Our team will make every effort to quickly communicate the results of
these observations through ATELs, concerning both GX 339-4 and sources
in the FOV. We request that those using the data independently
acknowledge our team by citing this ATEL and Caballero-Garcia et
al. (2007, in prep.).
