MDM OSMOS Spectroscopic classification of Supernovae

We report optical spectroscopic classification of supernova candidates 2016hgd (ATel #9651), 2016hli (ATel #9685), CSS161013:015319+171853 and CSS161013:020130+141534 (http://nesssi.cacr.caltech.edu/catalina/AllSN.html). Observations were performed with OSMOS (range 398-686 nm) mounted on the MDM 2.4m telescope at KPNO. We used SNID (Blondin & Tonry, 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) to identify the type, phase and redshift of the SN spectra.

(1) SNID estimated redshift is consistent with the host redshift of UGC 05356.
(2) SNID estimated redshift is consistent with the host redshift of PGC 013692.
(3) The best match is found with SN 2001ay (the slowly declining supernova with high Si II velocity; Krisciunas et al., 2011, AJ, 142, 74). After correcting redshift, Si II (6355 Angstrom) absorption velocity is found to be about 12,600 km/s. We measure V-band mag=17.7+-0.04 on 2016-10-27 from Sliding Spring 1m telescope of Las Cumbres Observatory and V-band mag=17.8+-0.16 on 2016-10-28 from All Sky Automated Survey for SuperNovae (ASAS-SN), the quadruple 14-cm "Brutus" telescope in Haleakala, Hawaii. It reaches M_V ~ -19.9 based on the best-fit SN redshift (z~0.074), probably overly-luminous for a SN Ia.
