We obtained an optical spectrum (range 380-870 nm) of SN 2016hgf (=Gaia16bnq), discovered by Gaia Satellite, on UT Oct.23.8 2016 with the 2.16-m telescope (+BFOSC) at Xinglong Station of NAOC. The spectrum is consistent with that of a type IIn supernova within a few weeks from the maximum light, showing prominent narrow emission features of balmer lines (with an FWHM velocity of about 1400 km/s). The very red continuum indicates that the observed spectrum suffered a significant amount of reddening.
