We obtained a spectrum of Gaia16bmw with the robotic 2-m Liverpool Telescope + SPRAT, on 2016 Oct 19.1 UT. The spectrum displays both narrow host galaxy lines at z=0.017 (consistent with UGC 3638), and a strong, broad Halpha line with a P-Cygni profile. The minimum of Halpha is at -9000 km/s, and is consistent with a relatively young Type II SN. The absolute magnitude of the SN in the Gaia G-band is -16.3.
