We confirm the discovery of a new nova candidate in the M81 galaxy (announced in ATel #9605) on 12x200s stacked R filter CCD images, obtained on 2016-10-08.05 UT. This date is 0.2 d prior to the discovery date given in ATel #9605. The object is detected with a magnitude of R = 19.7±0.3 mag. Nothing is visible at this position in a deep stacked reference image down to approximately R = 21.5 mag.
Our data were obtained with the 80 cm Ritchey-Chretien F/9.6 Joan Oro telescope at Observatori Astronomic del Montsec, owned by the Catalan Government and operated by the Institut d'Estudis Espacials de Catalunya, Spain, using a Finger Lakes PL4240-1-BI CCD Camera (with a Class 1 Basic Broadband coated 2k x 2k chip with 13.5 microns sq. pixels). Photometry is based on the SDSS DR7 photometry catalogue.
