We obtained an optical spectrum (range 340-900 nm) of SN 2016gmg (=PTSS-16opy), discovered by the PMO-Tsinghua Supernova Survey (PTSS: http://119.78.210.3/ptss2/ ), on UT Sep. 29.55 2016 with the 2.4 m telescope (LJT + YFOSC) at LiJiang Observatory of Yunnan Observatories (YNAO). The spectrum is consistent with a type Ia supernova around the maximum light. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) shows that it matches with SN 2007fb at t = +2 days from the maximum light. After correcting for a redshift of 0.049 for its host galaxy 2MASX J21234100+3307075, an expansion velocity of about 11000 km/s can be derived from the absorption minimum of Si II 635.5 nm. BTW., Lijiang Observatory locates at the village called GaoMeiGu (GMG). Locals would like to call this observatory GMG Observatory also. Thus, we are glad to regard SN 2016gmg as a gift to the GMG Village and Observatory.
