We report optical spectroscopy (range 370-910 nm) of two supernovae discovered by the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN; Shappee et al. 2014, ApJ, 788, 48) using the du Pont 2.5-m telescope (+ WFCCD) at Las Campanas Observatory on Aug. 30 and Sep. 1 2016 UT. We performed a cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024). The details of the classifications are as follows:
Name Disc. ATel Spec. Type Spec. UT Date Phase Redshift
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ASASSN-16jh ATel #9407 Ia Aug. 30 2016 +0.1 (5.3) 0.0389 (host/NED)
ASASSN-16jq ATel #9430 Ia Sep. 1 2016 -0.8 (4.9) 0.024 (0.005; SNID)
Both SNe are consistent with spectroscopically normal Type Ia SNe within a couple days of peak magnitude. The spectroscopic classification of ASASSN-16jh/AT2016fij was also reported in ATel #9448.
