We report optical spectroscopic observations of 2 supernova candidates ASASSN-16jf (ATel #9398) and 2016faa (ATel #9401) obtained on UT 2016-08-24.2 with OSMOS (range 398-686 nm) mounted on the MDM 2.4m telescope at KPNO. We used SNID (Blondin & Tonry, 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) to identify the type and phase of the SN spectra.
Name | Disc. ATel | Spec. Type | Phase | Redshift | Best match |
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ASASSN-16jf/SN 2016fff | 9398 | Ia | -1d | 0.011441 (host, NED) | SN 2006gj |
SN 2016faa/PS16dsy | 9401 | Ia | +9d | 0.034 (SN) | SN 2001fh |
The recent ATel #9403 also identified SN 2016faa as type Ia at a phase of +10d, which we also confirm from our spectra.
