We obtained an optical spectrum of ASASSN-16jb (see ASAS-SN Transients; Shappee et al. 2014) with the FRODOSpec spectrograph (Barnsley et al. 2012) on the 2.0m Liverpool Telescope (Steele et al. 2004) on 2016 August 20.87 UT. The spectrum was taken using the higher resolution mode, which gives a wavelength coverage of 3900 to 5100Å and 5900 to 8000Å, with a resolution of R ~ 5400.

The spectrum shows absorption from Hβ and Hγ, along with a tentative detection of He I (4471 Å) absorption. There are no clear emission components to these lines. This spectrum is consistent with ASASSN-16jb being a Galactic dwarf nova in outburst.
