We obtained a spectrum of the candidate supernova ASASSN-16hh/AT 2016daj (ATel
#9254) with the SPRAT spectrograph mounted on the robotic 2m Liverpool Telescope
at the Roque de los Muchachos observatory (La Palma). Observations started on
2016 Jul 19.13 (UT). The spectral range is 400-800 nm and the dispersion is 9.2
Angstrom/pixel.
Classification with SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) indicates that
this is a type Ia supernova slightly before maximum light at a redshift around
0.032. The best fit is with SN 2006cj at maximum light, at a redshift z=0.032.
