We conducted a spectroscopic observation of transient ASASSN-16fo (AT 2016cob) at 2016-05-29T23:40:07 UT. This transient was reported in ATel #9081 as observed by the All Sky Automated Survey for SuperNovae (ASAS-SN) on 2016-05-21.31 UT at position RA = 13:32:35.812, DEC = -05:16:21.33
A spectrum was obtained in the visible, 400-800nm, with resolution R~350, using the SPRAT spectrograph on the Liverpool Telescope located at Roque de los Muchachos, La Palma.
Classification using SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) indicates it is a type Ia supernova, sub-type Ia-91T. We find a good match with SN1999gp at -2 days with a SNID estimated redshift of z=0.026. The transient is 0.009 arcmin from galaxy 2MASX J13323577-0516218, redshift z=0.029610 (source NED). The ejecta velocity estimated from the Si II 635.3nm absorption feature is 14,400 km/s.
