We report the classification of PS16chs from spectroscopic observation with the Goodman spectrograph on the SOAR telescope. The observation was made on 2016 May 08 UT. We classify PS16chs as a SN Ia near maximum light at z = 0.19. In the SN spectrum, we detect a weak emission feature, which if real would be [O II] 3727 at z = 0.190. Cross-correlation with a library of SN template spectra using SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) finds a best-fit phase of -3 (+/-3) days relative to maximum light.
