LSQ16ajl/AT 2016blw was discovered on 2016 March 29.3 UT by the La Silla-QUEST survey (Baltay et al. 2013, PASP, 125, 683) at right ascension 15:25:23.50 and declination -03:34:19.6, 5" from the center of its host galaxy, CGCG 021-092, at V = 19.3 mag. No source was detected at those coordinates on 2016 March 25.
We obtained a spectrum of this object on 2016 April 6.6 UT with the robotic FLOYDS instrument mounted on the LCOGT 2-meter telescope in Siding Spring, Australia. Using SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024), we find a good fit to the Type II SN 1999em 16 days after explosion at a redshift of z=0.031, which is consistent with that of the proposed host galaxy (z=0.032; Jones et al. "The 6dF Galaxy Survey Data Release 3" via NED). The spectrum is available on the Transient Name Server.
