The AGILE satellite is detecting transient gamma-ray emission above 100 MeV from an unidentified source, AGL J1835-6040, with Galactic coordinates (l,b)=(334.6,-21.5) +/- 0.7 deg (95% stat. c.l.) +/- 0.1 deg (syst.), (R.A.: 278.77, Dec: -60.68).

Integrating from 2016-03-23 03:00 UT to 2016-03-25 03:00 UT, a preliminary maximum likelihood analysis yields the detection of the source with a flux of (2.6+/-0.9)x 10E-6 ph/cm2/s (E > 100 MeV) at a significance above 5 sigma.

The AGILE error region contains both the blazar 5BZB J1834-5948, and the Fermi-LAT gamma-ray source 3FGL J1838.5-6006 (active galaxy of uncertain type). This measurement was obtained with AGILE observing a large portion of the sky in spinning mode. Multifrequency observations of the source are strongly encouraged.
