We obtained a spectrum of SN 2016bkv, discovered by Koichi Itagaki, on 2016 March 23.5 UT with the robotic FLOYDS instrument mounted on the LCOGT 2-meter telescope on Haleakala, Hawai'i. The spectrum shows a blue continuum with weak hydrogen Balmer features. Using Superfit (Howell et al. 2005, ApJ, 634, 119), we find a good fit to the Type IIn SN 1998S 2 days before maximum light at the redshift of the proposed host galaxy (z=0.002; Mathewson & Ford 1996, ApJS, 107, 97, via NED). The spectrum is available on the Transient Name Server.
