The CHASE project which is part of the Millennium Institute for Astrophysics (MAS) report the independent discovery of ASASSN-16cc (AT 2016aqf) in NGC 2101 on an unfiltered image taken on UT 2016-02-25.14 at V ~15.8 with the 'PROMPT 2' telescope located at CTIO with the following coordinate RA(J2000)=05:46:23.837, Dec(J2000)=-52:05:18.32. The candidate is also present in a confirmation image taken with the same telescope on UT 2016-02-26.06 at V~15.5. The transient is not detect (V>18.0) in images taken on UT 2016-02-24.12
Below we summarize the evolution of the magnitude of the transient on the CHASE images.
Obs. UT Date V mag
2016-02-24.12 >18.0
2016-02-25.14 15.8
