Lin and Wu (ATEL #8582) reported a possible new outburst of the transient source MAXI J1543-564, by examination of the public MAXI light-curves. We performed a short (1ks) target-of-opportunity observation of the source with Swift's X-ray Telescope starting 2016 January 23 at 23:38UT. No source was detected at the known localization of MAXI J1543-564. This non-detection rules out emission at the the ~30 mCrab level reported. We therefore believe that the detection was likely spurious.
