We report an optical spectrum (range 350-900 nm) of SN 2016P that was obtained on UT Jan.19.9 2015 with the 2.4-m telescope (+YFOSC) at LiJiang Gaomeigu Station of Yunnan Astronomical Observatories. The spectrum is consistent with a broadlined type Ic supernova a few days before the maximum light. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the spectral comparison tool Gelato (Harutyunyan et al., 2008, A&A, 488, 383) shows that it matches with SN 2006aj at t = -5.1 days from the maximum light.
