We report optical spectroscopy (range 370-910 nm) of ASASSN-15pf obtained on Sept 10 UT with the du Pont 2.5-m telescope (+ WFCCD) at Las Campanas Observatory.
ASASSN-15pf was discovered (ATel #8017) approximately 6.3" South and 2.9" West from the center of the galaxy ESO 241-G016 (z=0.039354, d=163 Mpc, via NED). Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates the spectrum of ASASSN-15pf is a normal Type Ia 6.5 (9.4) days after maximum brightness with z=0.041(0.006). The best-fit template SNe were the 1996bk (at +2.5 days) and 2007hj (at +6.3 days). These epochs are consistent with the discovery and redshift reported in ATel #8017.
