MASTER OT J161633.80+333044.1 - flaring quasar

MASTER-Amur auto-detection system discovered OT source at (RA, Dec) = 16h 16m 33.80s +33d 30m 44.1s on 2014-04-06.70830 UT. The OT unfiltered magnitude is 17.4m (limit 19.1m). The OT is seen in 6 images. There is no minor planet at this place. We have reference image without OT on 2012-08-09.59118 UT with unfiltered magnitude limit 19.1m.

The OT at quiescence is identical to quasar FIRST J161633.7+333043 = NVSS J161633+333043 = SDSS J161633.77+333043.4 (g=19.52 r=19.13 i=18.84) with the unknown redshift. There is also an UV counterpart GALEX J161633.7+333044 (NUV=21.96+/-0.32) and IR detection WISE J161633.77+333043.5 (W1=14.58+/-0.03 W2=13.66+/-0.04 W3=11.18+/-0.10 W4=8.12+/-0.12).

The object is showing variability from ~20.5m to 18.2m in Catalina Sky Survey data: CSS J161633.9+333043. Follow up observations (especially the spectroscopy) are required. Estimates of redshift vary from z=2.22 in SDSS Data Release 7 to z=0.0 in SDSS DR8, including photometric redshift zph=0.435.
