Type Determination for supernova SNF20050803-005

A. Gal-Yam, D. Sand and D. Leonard report for the CCCP: We have observed SNF20050803-005 (The nearby SN factory; ATEL #582) with the DBSP spectrograph mounted on the Hale 200" telescope at Palomar Observatory on 2005 August 14 UT. Reductions of the red-side spectra show a prominent Halpha line with a well-developed P-cygni profile, indicating this is a type II SN. From narrow Balmer lines in the spectrum of the anonymous host galaxy we determine a redshift of z=0.0387 for this event.
