The intermediate Palomar Transient Factory (ATel #4807) report the independent discovery of an apparent nova in M31, iPTF13dum, at RA = 00:43:24.92, Dec = +41:21:22.3. This optical transient was first detected on UT Oct 22.1, at magnitudes R=19.1, and brightened to R=18.1 on UT Oct 23.4. Nothing was there at this location on UT Oct 16, and previous iPTF images (typically nightly observations), with typical limiting magnitudes R~21 mag.
The object was first announced on CBAT (PNV J00432496+4121219; http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/unconf/followups/J00432496+4121219.html ).
