We obtained a low-resolution optical spectrum (range 3850-6850 Angstroms) of ASASSN-13av (ATel #5177) on UT June 29.5 with the OSMOS spectrograph mounted on the MDM 2.4m telescope. The spectrum shows features characteristic of a Type Ia SN around maximum light. We used SNID (Blondin & Tonry, 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) to perform cross-correlation with a library of SN spectra and find that ASASSN-13av spectrum is consistent with a normal SN Ia around maximum (templates a few days before maximum also give good fits) at the redshift of its host galaxy, NGC 7068 (z=0.0173). After correcting for the recession velocity of the host, we measure a Si II 6355 absorption velocity of -11500 km/s.
