Discovery of a Bright Nova in M31

I report the discovery of a bright nova in M31 on a co-added 660-s R-band CCD frame taken on 2013 Jan. 25.728 UT with the 0.65-m telescope at Ondrejov.

The new object, designated PNV J00440207+4125442 by independent discoverers K. Nishiyama and F. Kabashima (Miyaki-Argenteus Observatory, Japan), is located at R.A. = 0h44m02s.09, Decl. = +41o25'44".4 (equinox 2000.0), which is 875.7" east and 575.9" north of the center of M31 (see link to discovery image below).

The following R-band magnitudes were obtained using the 0.65-m telescope at Ondrejov:

2013 Jan. 12.703 UT, [20.5; 25.728, 15.05 +/- 0.07.
