We have observed the field of the fast optical transient MLS121106:014420+082311 (ATel #4586), which has been suggested to be an orphan GRB afterglow, using the 10.4m GTC telescope located in La Palma (Spain). Observations began on 19 November 2012 at 22:04:43 UT and consisted of 6x200s exposures in r-band. A preliminary analysis of the data does not show any significant source at the location of the transient down to a 3-sigma limiting magnitude of r > 26.0 (this could be slightly improved in the final reduction). We note that this limit is deeper than the median magnitude of GRB host galaxies found in the TOUGH sample (R = 25.52, Hjorth et al. 2012, ApJ 756, 187).
