A new nova candidate, PTF12gnd, was discovered on UT 2012/07/07.39 with a magnitude of R=19.1 mag at RA(J2000)=00:41:33.95, Dec(J2000)=+41:08:06.3, about 793" west and 483" south of the center of M31. Nothing was there in an image taken on UT 2012/07/06.45 with a limiting magnitude of R=20.2 mag. Photometric measurements are calibrated to the USNO-B1.0 catalog.
