We carried out near-IR photometry of V1312 Scorpii (Nova Scorpii 2011) with the 3.8-m United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT) and the UKIRT Wide Field Camera (WFCAM), using the near-IR filters Z, Y, J, H and K (effective wavelengths: 0.8717, 1.0305, 1.2483, 1.6313 and 2.2010 microns respectively) on two nights: 20110810 and 20120821 UT. We derive the coordinates (J2000) RA=16:55:09.465, Dec=-38:38:04.36. The epochs of observations, filters used and the magnitudes estimated (in the UKIRT-WFCAM photometric system) are given in the table below.
V1312 Sco is a Classical Nova in outburst (A. Arai et al. 2011, IAUC, 9216, 1) first detected on 2011 June 1.40 UT by Seach J. (CBET #2735). No post-outburst near-IR observations of this object are available. 2MASS observations did not detect any near-IR source at the location of V1312 Sco. A comparison with the 2MASS detection limits (J < 14.5, H < 14.0, or Ks < 13.5 mag (SNR > ~25)) shows that on 20110810, the object was several magnitudes brighter in the near-IR compared to its pre-outburst brightness. The system faded by ~0.25 magnitudes in the near-IR from 20110810 to 20110821 UT.
The data reduction and distribution are performed by the Cambridge Astronomy Survey Unit and the Wide Field Astronomy Unit respectively. UKIRT is operated by the Joint Astronomy Centre on behalf of the UK-STFC.
