MAXI/GSC detected X-ray brightening of Mrk 501. The daily-average
flux monitored by MAXI/GSC all-sky survey in 2-10 keV band has been
gradually increasing since 2011 November 1 (MJD=55866) with some
variations, as listed below. The fluxes in the latest few days are
at around 10 mCrab. It is remarkably higher than the value in the
MAXI/GSC first catalogue, 2.6+-0.2 mCrab, obtained for the first 7
months from 2009 September to 2010 March (Hiroi et
al. http://arxiv.org/abs/1108.5516 ) and almost comparable with that in
the active period from 1997 to 1999 (Xue and Cui, 2005, ApJ, vol.622,
p160).
Multiwavelength observations of this source are encouraged.
