AGILE is detecting intense gamma-ray emission above 100 MeV at Galactic coordinates (l,b) = (237.4, 38.4) +/- 0.9 deg (95% stat.) +/- 0.1 deg (syst.) (R.A.,Dec.=147.4,0.3 deg, J2000).
Integrating from 2011-06-20 07:30 UT to 2011-06-22 11:20 UT, a maximum likelihood analysis yields a detection at a significance level of about 5 sigma and a flux of (310+/-100) x 10E-8 ph/cm2/s (E > 100 MeV).
On a 10 days integration starting from June 10th, we obtain only a 95% C.L. upper limit of 60 x 10E-8 ph/cm2/s (E > 100 MeV).
The AGILE source error box is consistent with the Narrow-Line Sy1 PMN J0948+0022 associated to the Fermi gamma-ray source 1FGL J0949.0+0021 (Abdo et al. 2010). A gamma-ray flux increase from this source has been recently reported by Fermi/LAT on June 11, 2011 (ATel #3429).
This measurement was obtained with AGILE observing a large portion of the sky in spinning mode.
Multifrequency observations of the AGILE source error circle are strongly encouraged.
