AGILE detects enhanced gamma-ray emission from a region including the BL Lac Object S4 1749+70

AGILE is detecting intense gamma-ray emission above 100 MeV at Galactic Coordinates (l, b) = (100.1, 30.7) +/- 0.8 deg (95% stat.) +/- 0.1 deg (syst.) (R.A.=17:49:7.5, Dec.=69:44:4.0, J2000).
Integrating from 2011-02-26 00:00 UT to 2011-03-01 04:00 UT, a maximum likelihood analysis yields a detection at a significance level above 5 sigma and a flux F=(200 +/- 60) x 10E-8 ph/cm2/s (E > 100 MeV).
We note that the BL Lac Object S4 1749+70 (also known as BZB J1748+7005) lies within the AGILE gamma-ray source error box. The measured flux is about a factor of two higher with respect to a previous detection reported in the same region by the Fermi Coll. on February 16, 2011 (ATel #3171).
This measurement was obtained with AGILE observing a large portion of the sky in spinning mode.
Multifrequency observations of the AGILE source error box are strongly encouraged.
