We report the presence of a near infrared counterpart (2MASS and DENIS )
in the error box of the Rosat source RXH J075942.0-384359, likely to be
associated to the new ISGRI source IGR J07597-3842 located
in the Vela region (Atel 261).
The 2 MASS object (see K-band image where position and associated uncertainty
of the Rosat, IRAS and radio sources are overlaid) is located at R.A. = 07h 59m 41.82s
and Decl. = -38o 43' 56" and has magnitudes J=13.560, H=12.465 and K=11.345; this
source is also reported in the DENIS catalogue (J075941.8-384356) with similar
J and K magnitudes and with I=15.026-15.114, R=14.2 and B=16.6 magnitudes respectively.
It is clear from the near-image that the radio, far and near IR as well as the
soft X-ray source are the same object. Near-infrared photometry is compatible with
an AGN nature for this source.
