The RXTE All-Sky Monitor has detected a new outburst in 4U 1608-52, a neutron-star
binary that emits type 1 X-ray bursts. The flux increased from an upper limit of
10 mCrab (3 sigma; 1.5-12 keV), averaged over 2004 March 1-12, to 125 mCrab on March 16,
and to 250 mCrab on March 18. Thus far on March 19, the source is holding roughly steady
near 250 mCrab. This is the eighth time that 4U 1608-52 has surpassed 200 mCrab
since Jan 1996.
