The MAGIC collaboration reports the observation of a high flux level
in the gamma ray emission from the radio galaxy M87 above 100GeV. The
observation was performed in stereoscopic mode using the two 17m
diameter telescopes on La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain , during 2.5
hours from MJD 55236.06 to 55236.19 (February 9th 2010). The recorded
signal corresponds to an integral flux >10% of the Crab Nebula
flux. This level is similar to the flaring activity detected in 2005
by HESS and in February 2008 by MAGIC and VERITAS. The previous very
high energy outbursts were contemporaneous to high activity in the
core region in X-ray and radio bands. MAGIC will continue to observe
M87 and multi-frequency observations are strongly encouraged.
