On Jul 8.703 UT, we undertook observations of SN2009dn (CBET#1867) with the Hanle Faint Object Spectrograph Camera on the 2m Himalayan Chandra Telescope. The low resolution spectrum covers the wavelength range between 3500 to 9000 Ang and the weather conditions were poor. The only prominent feature is two component H-alpha emission (broad and narrow) consistent with the redshift of M66. The gaussian FWHM of this feature corresponds to a velocity of approximately 5000 km/s. We conclude this transient is an extincted (ATel#2113) Type II Supernova.
